The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education is a focused, compact program that is offered conjointly with the Master of Arts in Religious Education program. It is intended for professionals who are looking for a formal introduction to the field of religious education and graduate-level training in developing and managing religious education programs, but who do not require a Master’s degree in this field.
Applicants for admission to the GCRE must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a general weighted average of 2.5 or better.
Students who are admitted to the MARE program may opt to exit the MARE program and be awarded the GCRE provided they complete the GCRE course requirements.
OBJECTIVES
1. Participate in the development and delivery of Religious Education programs in schools and churches.
2. Participate in the management of religious education programs in different contexts to meet the needs of target learners.
3. Use their knowledge of theories, models, and principles of religious education to critically examine various aspects of the RE programs from the Evangelical perspectives.
GRADUATION
1. Students who are admitted to the MARE program may opt to exit the MARE program and be awarded the GCRE provided they complete the GCRE course requirements.
2. A GCRE graduate who wishes to apply for admission or re-admission to the MARE program (in the case of former MARE students who exited the MARE with the GCRE) should have a general weighted average of 2.0 or better in the GCRE.
3. Upon admission to the MARE program, course completed for the GCRE may be credited to the MARE subject to the following conditions: (a) The course to be credited should have been taken within three years from the application for crediting; and (b) The student has earned a grade of 2.0 or better in the course to be credited.
4. If a course being applied for crediting does not meet one of the two conditions, the course may still be credited provided the student takes and passes a validation exam for that course before or within the semester of admission to the MARE program.
5. Up to 21 units of course completed for the GCRE may be credited to the MARE subject to the foregoing conditions and other relevant CGST policies.
