Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Studies
The Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Studies (GCPS) is a focused, compact program that is offered conjointly with the Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (MAPS) program. It is intended for professionals who are looking for a formal introduction to the field of religious education and graduate-level training in developing and managing religious education programs, but who do not require a Master’s degree in this field.
Applicants for admission to the GCPS must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a general weighted average of 2.5 or better.
Students who are admitted to the MAPS program may opt to exit the MAPM program and be awarded the GCPS provided they complete the GCPS course requirements.
OBJECTIVES
1. Participate in the development and delivery of Pastoral Studies programs in schools and churches.
2. Participate in the management of religious education programs in different contexts to meet the needs of target learners.
3. Use their knowledge of theories, models, and principles of religious education to critically examine various aspects of the Pastoral Ministry programs from the Evangelical perspectives.
GRADUATION
1. Students who are admitted to the MAPS program may opt to exit the MAPS program and be awarded the GCPS provided they complete the GCPS course requirements.
2. A GCPS graduate who wishes to apply for admission or re-admission to the MAPS program (in the case of former MAPS students who exited the MAPS with the GCPS) should have a general weighted average of 2.0 or better in the GCPS.
3. Upon admission to the MAPS program, course completed for the GCPS may be credited to the MAPS subject to the following conditions: (a) The course to be credited should have been taken within three years from the application for crediting; and (b) The student has earned a grade of 2.0 or better in the course to be credited.
4. If a course being applied for crediting does not meet one of the two conditions, the course may still be credited provided the student takes and passes a validation exam for that course before or within the semester of admission to the MAPS program.
5. Up to 21 units of course completed for the GCPS may be credited to the MAPS subject to the foregoing conditions and other relevant CGST policies.
